Volunteer Highlight: Duncan Shepherd

Meet Duncan Shepherd! Duncan founded an independent oil and gas producing company in 1990 that has survived through many of the sector’s price cycles and crashes over the years. He has been a business mentor with RMMFI for over 5 years. Duncan’s 28 years of managing an independent business not only gives his mentees insight into the ups and downs of business cycles but the encouragement that they too can make it! He also serves on launch panels when he’s not mentoring.

We asked Duncan to answer a few questions about why he loves to volunteer with RMMFI, and this is what he said…

I volunteer with RMMFI because…

They connect to people who have integrity & drive.

What would you tell someone who is interested in volunteering with RMMFI?

You’ll get more out if it than you put into it.

What has been the most rewarding experience you’ve had through RMMFI?

The look in the entrepreneur’s eyes when they graduate – or get loan approval – or make their initial sales.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from an RMMFI mentee?

Business ownership can overcome hurdles of economic status to be a vehicle for self-confidence and incredible personal growth.

What is the one word you would use to describe the RMMFI Community?

Inspirational.
